I’m History… But I’m Still Here explores my personal experience of harassment and appropriating it to satire. I combine my two interests, photography and printmaking, to express stereotypes, racist, and sexist comments said towards me as a female Canadian Chinese.

The texts used are terms I have been told by friends, colleagues and strangers. I translate these terms as harmless and playful labels by using bold, pastel colours.

In the photographs, I become the term by portraying myself as different characters. I hide behind the layer of text which represents the barrier people interpret me as.

The objective of the installation is to replicate public advertisements in which posters are wheat-pasted onto the walls. The repetition of the posters becomes engraved into our daily lives and we forget its existence. The installation is a representation of my permanent affiliations of my identity.
